Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Since Sandy Springs recently made a list of the top 10 richest communities in the United States, I thought it would be appropriate to list the current Sandy Springs luxury homes over $1 million.

Portfolio.com ranked communities with populations over 75,000 and Sandy Springs placed 9th on the list. The report also says Sandy Springs is number two in the Southeast, behind Arlington, VA. Almost 18% of Sandy Springs households make over $200,000 a year and the median home value is $486,500. Read More→

A Piece of Sandy Springs History

sandy-springs-frontThis historic home was recently featured in the AJC Homes Section.

This is a rare opportunity to become an owner of a Reconstruction era home in North Atlanta. The c.1870 house has been recognized by the Sandy Springs Historical Society as one of the oldest buildings in the area.

Your home will have original features that cannot be duplicated in modern times. The masonry fireplace is constructed with imported, handmade bricks from Charleston. The heart pine floors, traditional moldings, 10-foot ceilings and large windows combine to give the home an unquestionable historic feel. The home stands as a monument to custom craftsmanship that defies the current wave of cookie-cutter homes.

The original character is maintained while providing modern conveniences such as a large master suite, ample closet space and an updated kitchen. Many improvements have been made that enhance the quality of the home. The entire driveway is made with hand-laid, individual pavers. The multi-level deck allows you to enjoy your morning cup of coffee and newspaper while enjoying woodland views. The secluded property is just under an acre.

sandy-springs-kitchenThe kitchen is a gourmet cook’s paradise. No detail was spared with pullout cabinets, subway tile, farmers sink, stainless steel appliances, breakfast bar and a gas range. Dinner in the elegant dining room, with hand stenciled walls and period windows, will always be a special experience. The office / bedroom has bookshelves and cabinets built by a true craftsmen.

You’ll like watching television in the large den that is part of a desirable, open floor plan. It opens up into the kitchen and connects to the sunroom with a row of French doors. The windows in the scenic sunroom can be opened to catch a cool breeze.

Architectural historians will be quick to spot the wide hallway as part of the original home. A central hall extending through the house would provide a breeze during the summer months.

sandy-springs-masterThe master bedroom is quite large and seems even bigger with a vaulted ceiling. As part of the master suite addition, you get a large bonus room. This room can be used as an extra TV room, an office or a nursery. When you wake up in the morning you can walk out on the upper deck for a view of the woodlands.

The carriage house above the garage has a complete kitchen and bathroom. It can be used for rental income or as a private office / studio. There is also access to a separate laundry facility in the garage.

Offered at: $849,000
MLS: 3981061

Brief History of Sandy Springs

By admin · Comments (0)

Sandy Springs, Georgia has gone through a huge transformation over the last few years. The people of Sandy Springs had spent the better part of three decades trying to gain incorporation, and come out from under the thumb of Fulton County. The City of Atlanta has always stared at Sandy Springs they way a salivating dogs looks at a piece of raw meat. Since Atlanta is very Democrat and Democrats controlled the State Legislature of Georgia, the incorporation of Sandy Springs was blocked for decades. When the GOP took control of the Legislature, Sandy Springs was given its city charter. Read More→

A great Sandy Springs sandwich shop

By Administrator · Comments (0)
Friday, May 29th, 2009

I had a great casual lunch with my family today at a deli in Sandy Springs. The restaurant is called R/J Casuals and it’s in a strip mall at 8540 Roswell Road. It’s right next door to where the old Diggers sports bar used to be.

The strip mall and deli are very nondescript. The inside is utilitarian, just the basics, but a great spot for a quality sandwich. To be honest, I would never have noticed the place had I not been to the mall for other reasons. I saw a bunch of Sandy Springs cops eating there and figured they would know about the good eats.

It’s one of the best sandwich shops in metro Atlanta. I think what makes the spot is the fact one of the partners is a professional baker and the other does the cooking. They make all their own bread and roast a lot of their own meats. I really like the fact they had Portuguese roles. That coupled with high quality meats makes for some great sandwiches. They also have some awesome desserts. There is a true homemade vibe that permeates the place.

I had the turkey melt on focaccia bread which was outstanding. My husband had some homemade roast beef on a fresh baked Portuguese roll which he said was really great.

If you’re up in Sandy Springs check it out sometime.
